A spectacular Tunisie Challenge came to an end on the island of Djerba, with 95 teams taking part after a prologue and five intense stages in which sand was the main protagonist.
The fifth edition, held under a relentless sun and in very hot conditions, featured a completely renewed and demanding route that required maximum effort at all times. On this occasion, Italian participants dominated all nine categories.
After five editions, the Tunisie Challenge has firmly established itself as a benchmark event among amateur motor competitions held in Tunisia. The adventure was thrilling, spectacular and unforgiving, combining all types of terrain — from mountain tracks to endless dune chains.
Due to the lack of rain and high temperatures, the sand was extremely soft and loose, forcing the organisers to modify some stages for safety and logistical reasons. The decision was taken after observing during the previous days that crossing the dunes was causing numerous problems.
After an intense week, filled with an outstanding atmosphere, all participants agreed that expectations were fully met and that the Tunisie Challenge has proven once again to be a tough and demanding event, where no one can relax until the very end.
The 95 registered teams, half of them Italian, represented a significant increase compared to previous editions.
The support of the Tunisian Automobile Federation and the National Tourism Office, together with the CTN shipping company, helped make this fifth edition of the Tunisie Challenge yet another great success.
The adventure began with a new prologue on the beach of Gammarth, which set the starting order for the first stage, departing for the first time from the capital. Sixty kilometres of beach and dunes through the unexplored area of Cap Bon marked the start of an outstanding edition, with stage finishes in Sousse, Douz, Ksar Ghilane (where the traditional bivouac night was held at the Zmela Camp) and Djerba, where the event concluded with another seaside section of around 30 kilometres.
Of the 95 vehicles that started, 72 managed to reach the finish, and the remarkable success of the Italian participants stood out, as they won all nine categories.
